The Ucits-compliant fund aims to realise attractive and sustainable after-inflation returns, while maintaining diversification and prudent risk management.
It invests in a combination of equities, bonds, commodities, real estate and inflation-linked bonds and is available to investors through insurance, savings and defined contribution schemes.
PIMCO said its allocation is based on risk factor diversification rather than asset class diversification and it uses "tail risk" hedging strategies that aim to protect against the adverse impact of market shocks and systemic risk.
The fund is managed by a team led by chief executive officer and co-chief investment officer, Mohamed A El-Erian.
In addition, Curtis Mewboure will have responsibility for relative value strategies and Vineer Bhansali will have oversight of tail risk management.
Bhansali, said: "A greater risk of market shocks and policy mistakes is arising from the evolving macro economy and growing rile of the government as a market participant.
"Meanwhile the increasing divergence in monetary policies and inflation regimes across regions is coming to bear on investment returns. Against this backdrop, traditional asset allocation approaches to deliver long-term after-inflation returns with effective risk management are being challenged."
The PIMCO Select Global Multi-Asset fund is available in accumulation and income share classes and will be available on various investment platforms in the near future.
