Amid the fallout from the Bank of England’s all-encompassing stress test, there’s already talk about what wasn’t included – particularly a check on the banks’ ability to withstand a cyber-attack.

Owen sees the AXA Framlington Global Technology Fund, run by Jeremy Gleeson, as another option: “Gleeson has been investing in the theme for a few years now – which the AXA team refers to as security software as a service (Saas) – and has Silicon Valley-based security firm ProofPoint within its top-10 holdings.”

He adds: “Unlike other investing trends – particularly in tech – cyber-security looks like it is here to stay. Corporations and governments are likely to increasingly see it no as an additional expense but as a necessity.

“Data breaches will no longer be considered simply as an embarrassment for the organisation involved but could punch a serious hole in their wallet too, placing a premium on those companies able to keep the hackers at bay.”
