Old Mutual Global Investors (OMGI) announced Meir’s appointment today following a review of the £220m fund, which it said will continue with the same focus and objectives under Meir’s leadership.

Meir joined OMGI in 2013 as a research analyst and has more than 16 years’ experience in investment management.

Richard Buxton, head of UK equities and CEO said the firm is “committed to building a leading capability” in UK equity income funds.

“We believe investors in the Old Mutual UK Equity Income Fund will benefit from Ed’s proven stock-picking and portfolio management skills, as well as the portfolio construction abilities of OMGI’s highly experienced UK equities team,” said Buxton. “We believe that under Ed’s management there is a significant opportunity for us to attract further investment to the fund, which is in a sector dominated by a small number of asset managers.”

The investment objective of the fund will remain the same, and it will invest in 50 – 60 stocks based on fundamental research.

Alongside his new role, Meir will remain a member of the UK Alpha team and contribute to the wider UK equities desk’s investment process reporting to the head of large cap UK equities, Simon Murphy
