Old Mutual’s asset management arm said it had reached a mutual agreement with Johnson that the restructured fixed income team no longer required a general manager.
Johnson will be leaving the Old Mutual Wealth group entirely to pursue other opportunities.
OMGI has confirmed that it has no plans to find a new fixed income head at this stage.
Johnson, who has led the fixed income team since October 2013, was instrumental in overseeing the “strategic expansion” of the group, which now stands at 10 investment professionals.
OMGI carved out further leadership positions in the team over the past two years, hiring Threadneedle’s John Peta as head of emerging market debt, promoting Tim Barker to head of credit and appointing Mark Nash as head of global bonds in June last year.
Simultaneously, Johnson stepped back from her role as manager of the Old Mutual Corporate Bond Fund in December 2015 and Old Mutual Global Strategic Bond Fund last August, handing the reins to Lloyd Harris and Mark Nash and Nicholas Wall, respectively.
On her departure, Johnson commented: “During my time at OMGI, we have built a highly experienced and successful fixed income desk. With the team in place for nearly nine months, a head of fixed income is no longer required.
“Therefore, I believe now is the right time for me to move on and explore alternative opportunities. I am confident that the team will continue to deliver for investors and I wish them, and the business, the best for the future.”
