Woolfe joined OMGI on Monday from Newton Investment Management.

At OMGI he will advise senior management, including head of UK equities Richard Buxton, on corporate governance and stewardship.

He has also been tasked with looking after the firm’s global voting programme and for helping fund managers ensure investment decisions are made in the best interests of clients and consider environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, in line with OMGI’s stewardship code.

At Newton, Woolfe was a responsible investment analyst primarily covering the healthcare and technology, media and telecommunications sectors, a role he held from March 2015. He also helped develop the firm’s house view on global corporate governance issues.

Prior to this, he worked at Hermes Equity Ownership Services as associate director, head of UK engagement, from 2008.

Buxton said: “Freddie has extensive experience in driving responsible investment strategies and his appointment will help us to further develop our stewardship activities, building on the foundations laid by Paul Emerton in recent years. This will enhance our investment processes, allowing us to deliver better investor outcomes and I really look forward to working with him.”

Woolfe added: “Together with fund managers, and senior leaders, I look forward to developing the business’s responsible investment strategy and improving outcomes for investors.”
