Ninety One has continued its hiring spree with a pair of senior distribution appointments as it looks to deepen its presence in the UK.

Pat Sanderson has been appointed head of business development for the UK, a newly created role, while Leanne Barnham joins as head of UK marketing, overseeing the asset manager’s 30-strong client group.

Sanderson, who joins from RBC, will look after sales, client management and consultant relations for Ninety One’s UK business and drive its business development agenda as a member of the UK client group’s leadership team.

In addition to RBC, he has worked in investor services sales roles at JP Morgan and Citi Bank. Before his career in financial services, he was a professional rugby player and captain of the England team in 2006.

Barnham will drive Ninety One’s marketing strategy across institutional and adviser channels in the UK.

She was global head of marketing at Architas before joining Ninety One in January. Before that she worked in various marketing roles for BNYM Asset Management, F&C Investments and Skylight Capital.

The appointments come as Ninety One looks to further expand its presence in the UK. It has made a string of hires already this year, particularly on the ESG side, adding Nordea Asset Management’s Juliana Hansveden as a portfolio manager and Daisy Streatfeild from the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change as sustainability director.

Earlier this year, it was revealed River and Mercantile’s Dan Hanbury would also be returning to the business.

“Ninety One has an established footprint in the UK, but there is enormous growth potential to deepen and widen this,” Nigel Smith (pictured at the top), managing director for the UK client group, said.

“Pat and Leanne’s expertise, deep relationships and experience will be integral to drive the UK business through the next phase of growth.  Their collaboration and alignment across strategy and execution will ensure we continue to consistently deliver value and help our clients to achieve their long-term investment goals”.
