Three days after it was announced that Charlie French (pictured) had exited his role as head of equity opportunities at Newton Investment Management, it has been confirmed he is joining Impax Asset Management.
With effect from 21 June 2022, he will become deputy chief investment officer, listed equities.
In his new role, together with fellow deputy Hubert Aarts, French has been tasked with helping to lead and grow Impax’s listed equities business, globally.
Both will report to and support Bruce Jenkyn-Jones, CIO, listed equities.
French will have a specific focus on the strategic direction of listed equities, including refining the team’s capabilities and operating model as part of the ‘Impax 2025’ project.
There are no changes to the roles of Aarts and Jenkyn-Jones.
French’s departure from Newton was announced on Monday among a raft of hires at the BNY Mellon firm, which saw Mitesh Sheth join from Redington as CIO of multi-asset, and David Cumming and Georgina Cooper join the UK equity team from Aviva and Abrdn, respectively.
At the time, Newton said French was leaving the company after 21 years “to pursue another opportunity”.
