Fidelity International has appointed Ilga Haubelt (pictured) as head of equities for Europe, based in London.

She joins from Newton Investment Management, which yesterday announced that she had left the company to “pursue a non-portfolio-management opportunity at another investment firm”.

In her new role, she will not manage money, but will be jointly accountable for the global direction and delivery of Fidelity’s equities business, alongside the recently appointed head of equities, Asia Pacific, Marty Dropkin. Haubelt will also focus on integrating sustainability into Fidelity’s investment process.

A spokesperson confirmed to Portfolio Adviser that Haubelt’s role is a new position and follows the former global CIO for equities, Romain Boscher, moving to a non-executive position earlier this year.

“We have taken the opportunity to review the leadership structure of equities to provide the conditions for growth in an evolving industry landscape and changing client needs. The head of equities, Asia Pacific, and head of equities, Europe roles will take direct responsibility for the equity business in their respective regions and will work together on global strategy. They each report to Andrew McCaffery, global CIO.

“[Haubelt and Dropkin] will lead the European and Asia-based equity portfolio management teams, respectively, and ensure global strategic connectivity across the regions. In line with Fidelity’s commitment to sustainable investing, they will also ensure sustainability is integrated into the equity investment process,” the spokesperson added.

McCaffery said: “We are pleased to welcome Ilga to Fidelity. Ilga and Marty’s combined depth of investment knowledge, breadth of experience and strong track-record will be invaluable as we deliver investment performance for our clients and place sustainability considerations at the heart of everything we do.”

At Newton IM, Haubelt was most recently head of equity income and senior portfolio manager. Newton has appointed her former deputy James Lydotes to take over the role.

Before moving to London in 2019, Haubelt worked for German firms Union Investment Privatfonds and Deka Investments.
