Newton Investment Management has appointed Alex Khosla as a portfolio manager on its global emerging markets and Asian equities strategies.

Khosla will help manage £1.8bn worth of strategies, including the BNY Mellon Global Emerging Markets and BNY Mellon Sustainable Global Emerging Markets funds.

The move sees him reunite with lead managers Paul Birchenough and Ian Smith who he worked with at Axa Framlington. The pair joined Newton in October 2020 to replace Rob Marshall-Lee, who left to launch an emerging markets franchise for Odey Asset Management.

Birchenough and Smith said they had continued to see “strong demand” for Newton’s global emerging markets and Asian equities funds and were continuing to grow their product offering.

“Alex shares our belief in long-term investing with a clearly defined philosophy and an established, disciplined process for idea generation and portfolio management,” they said.

“We are very excited to be working with Alex again and believe he will make an invaluable contribution to the strategies, particularly considering the experience he has had within emerging-market equity investment.”

Prior to joining Newton, Khosla was an investment analyst for Aikya Investment Management, covering global emerging markets. He has also worked in analyst roles at Stewart Investors and UBS Investment Bank, where he began his career.
