The new strategy, a sub-fund of its Irish UCITS umbrella, is designed for investors seeking long term capital appreciation, principal preservation and reduced volatility from the US equity market.

The New York headquartered company said Kantor will employ an all-cap, bottom-up investment approach. He will invest long in attractive businesses with strong management teams and compelling valuations, and utilise a short underlay to generate alpha or to provide "insurance" to manage exposure and reduce risks.

While focused on the US, the manager does have the capacity to invest in fixed income securities and in equities outside the US and Canada.

Kantor, who joined the company in 2000 and now manages more than $2bn in long/short strategies, said: "The timing [of the launch] is especially appropriate as we anticipate increased equity volatility driven by the challenges of unwinding unprecedented Fed liquidity and a business cycle that is in the later stages.

"US equities are also in a good position to benefit from what we believe may be the verge of a manufacturing renaissance, which will ultimately have positive implications for investments, job creation and consumer sentiment.  Our constructive view is balanced against potential risks as we continue to monitor the shifting financial and geopolitical landscape."
