Jupiter Fund Management’s vice chairman Bonham Carter (pictured), and Somerset Webb, an FT columnist and MoneyWeek’s editor-in-chief, will both sit on the board. They join existing non-executive director and co-founder of Leonteq, Michael Hartweg.

Other board members include Netwealth co-founders Charlotte Ransom, CEO, and Thomas Salter, chief operating officer.

In May 2016, Bonham Carter and Somerset Webb became shareholders of Netwealth after participating in its £6.5m fundraising, alongside former chairman of Man Group and Prudential, Harvey McGrath.

The discretionary wealth manager also received backing from co-founder of Betfair, Ed Wray, LandSec chairman, Dame Alison Carnwath, and founder and chief executive of Vision Capital, Julian Mash.

Ransom said: “I am delighted that Edward and Merryn are joining us at this stage. Edward has been working in the investment industry for over 35 years and has extensive knowledge of the fund management market.

“Merryn, who has acted as adviser to the firm since launch, is one of the best-known commentators on personal finance and has deep insight into the UK’s financial consumers.”

Bonham Carter has previously been a part of Netwealth’s marketing efforts. In an interview dated January 2017, he stated he became a shareholder in Netwealth because he believes there is “an enormous opportunity” for the firm to provide a service in the investment management space, by “combining an online investment platform with the choice of investment advice given by a human being”.

“This is delivered by an experienced management team who will ensure that their wealth prospers over the next five to 10 years,” he added.

Star names with experience

Commenting on the appointments, Shore Financial Planning director Ben Yearsley, said they are “excellent hires with different experiences”.

He said: “Edward is extremely impressive and has had a long and varied career in the City and will definitely add a lot of value to the business.”
