Morningstar Investment Management Europe has appointed Mike Coop as its chief investment officer for EMEA.

Coop succeeds Dan Kemp in the role following his promotion to global CIO of Morningstar Investment Management in July.

In his role, Coop (pictured) will be responsible for leading the region’s investment management team and working with advisers and institutions to deliver investment solutions.

He joined Morningstar IM Europe as head of multi-asset portfolio management in 2017 and will continue to oversee this offering as part of his new role, the company said.

Prior to Morningstar, Coop has held positions at Prudential Portfolio Management Group, Ibbotson Associates Australia, BT Investment Management, Axa Investment Managers and Bacon & Woodrow.

“Mike has deep experience in multi-asset investing, represents the embodiment of our investment principles, and has an obvious passion for delivering great returns to end investors,” said Kemp. “Since joining the team, he has worked tirelessly with the leaders of our investment team across the world to ensure that our process remains at the leading edge of developments in multi-asset portfolio management.

He added: “He successfully managed the team and our Real Return portfolios through one of the most challenging investment climates of the last century and was instrumental in the launch of our flagship multi-asset funds, which he continues to lead. With Mike’s leadership, we will continue to build a robust team and provide unrivalled support to the advisers with whom we work.”
