Joining from Prudential Portfolio Management, where he held an identically titled role since 2015, Coop’s 25-year investment career also included time at Ibbotson Associates in Australia, a business owned by Morningstar.
Coop will lead Morningstar’s 20-strong multi-asset portfolio team based in London and Paris, while also chairing the group’s portfolio committee.
He will also serve as lead manager, alongside portfolio manager Emma Morgan, of the Morningstar Real Return managed portfolios range.
“Mike is a seasoned investor with a strong track record of running real-return focused portfolios,” said Dan Kemp, chief investment officer for Morningstar Investment Management Europe.
“In his previous role in our Sydney office, Mike was integral to our valuation-driven approach to asset allocation, and his addition to the European team further strengthens our managed portfolios proposition and support for the financial advisers we serve.”
July saw the departure of Morningstar’s former head of portfolio management for EMEA, Robin Johnson, after 10 years to Nedgroup.
