Misselbrook is currently a non-executive director on the Aviva Investors board, and has held a range of senior positions within financial services, including a stint as COO at Baring Asset Management.

Abberley was appointed interim chief executive in May 2012 following a restructure at the parent insurance group Aviva which prompted the departure of then-chief executive Alain Dromer.

Aviva CEO Mark Wilson said: “Aviva Investors is a core part of the group. By capitalising on its expertise in managing Aviva’s own funds, it has the potential to become a stronger and more vibrant third party asset manager while also increasing its contribution to the group.”

There have been a number of changes at Aviva lately, including the departure earlier this month of multi-asset manager Justin Onuekwusi.

The firm’s UK Absolute Return Fund was also moved from the IMA Absolute Return sector to the specialist sector.
