M&G Investments has expanded its global equity team by announcing two internal hires.

Having joined M&G in 2019, Hong Kong-based senior analyst Nicholas Cunningham (pictured) has joined the global equity team as deputy fund manager, working alongside lead fund manager Alex Araujo. Meanwhile, investment analyst Son Tung Nguyen, who arrived at M&G in London as a graduate in 2016, has been promoted to senior analyst.

Cunningham brings 16 years of experience to the role, having held roles at Macquarie Group and Dymon Asia Capital prior to joining M&G. He will work on the £583m Global Listed Infrastructure and £2.3bn Global Themes funds.

Son has been an investment analyst on the M&G Global Listed Infrastructure fund since its launch in October 2017.

The appointments follow on from the hiring of analysts Ana-Cristina Mutilica and Georgi Gunchev who joined the global equity team in May. Mutilica previously spent four years as an analyst at Blackrock, while Gunchev worked as a research analyst at Bloomberg for more than five years.

For the year to 30 September, the Global Themes fund’s performance was -0.5%, which compares favourably to its MSCI ACWI Index benchmark which returned -3.7% over the period. The Global Listed Infrastructure returned 5.6% against the same benchmark.

Fabiana Fedeli, CIO of equities and multi-assets, said: “The strong performance of the Global Listed Infrastructure and Global Themes strategies under Alex Araujo and his team’s tenure showcases the in-depth expertise and solid and repeatable investment process, which have earned increasingly greater recognition among our clients. Nicholas joining the team will continue to strengthen such expertise and further help our clients take advantage of the opportunities within global equities.”
