McCoy left SLI in 2008 after nine years with the firm to do charity work in Malawi with the Microloan Foundation and since his return has worked for Odey Asset Management on its global multi-asset hedge fund.

In his prior role at SLI McCoy was a UK retail and institutional high alpha manager and was manager of the UK Equity Unconstrained Fund from its launch in 2005. The fund has been managed by Ed Legget since McCoy’s departure.

David Cumming, head of equities at Standard Life Investments, said: "We are pleased that McCoy is returning to Standard Life Investments. He will be a great addition to our already strongly performing Global Equities Team. As manager of the UK Equity Unconstrained Fund, McCoy was a highly-rated and well-regarded fund manager with an excellent track record.

“He is well versed in our ‘Focus on Change’ philosophy and will bring a wealth of experience to our Global Equities Team."
