The move is being made as the fund’s co-manager Eric Woehrling departs the firm, leaving his colleague Palaniappan Chidambaram to look after the transition.

Martin Currie said it wanted to convert the £17 million fund into a European income fund, but that the it was still waiting for the appropriate approvals to be in place.

Woehrling joined Martin Currie in 2000 and was in charge of the firm’s European mid-cap strategy.

He co-managed the funds that were born of that strategy, one of which was the Martin Currie Pan-European Opportunities fund.

Palaniappan joined Martin Curry in 2007 as an investment analyst and has co-managed the group’s European portfolios with Woehrling since 2008.

In the 12 months to 31 August the European fund was up 4.2% against a sector average of 4.5% and the benchmark’s gain of 3.4%.
Over three years the fund doesn’t fare so well, down 9%, compared to a sector average of a 3.8% fall and the benchmark fall of 2.8%.
