Turner will report to Aziz Nahas, limited partner of the firm and CIO of the equities business.

The 1798 Fundamental Strategies Fund is seen as the flagship fund at Lombard Odier and was launched in 2007 using a combination of strategies.

No single strategy has more than 20% allocation in the total portfolio and according to Hedge Fund Review, the fund did not gate or suspend redemptions in 2008.

It is constructed with bottom-up and top-down research from Nahas and a team of sector specialist portfolio managers, who discuss the portfolio allocation and underlying themes of the fund.

In the year to 30 September the fund posted losses of 4.25%, compared to losses of 8.68% from its benchmark, the S&P 500 Total Return.

Its annualised return from inception to date is 5.81%, against an annualised loss of 4.13% from the benchmark.

Turner brings over 15 years of healthcare investment experience to the role and is a trained doctor and oncologist, who has taught medical courses at universities.

Previously he has managed healthcare portfolios for First Manhattan Co and BoA Merrill Lynch.
