Allocation to each of the asset classes will be based on the team’s assessment of the changing economic landscape, which will be led by portfolio manager Jai Jacob.

The fund is based on the Lazard emerging markets multi-strategy portfolio that Jacob has been running since its launch in July 2009.

Jacob said: "By combining equity, debt and currency strategies and readjusting allocations according to economic and market conditions, the fund aims to avoid the extreme outcomes typically found in emerging markets to create a steadier pattern of returns for our clients.

The fund can currently invest in the following Lazard strategies: Lazard Emerging Market Equity, managed by James Donald and team; Lazard Developing Markets, managed by Kevin O’Hare, Peter Gillespie and team; Lazard Emerging Income managed by Ardra Belitz, Ganesh and team; and the Lazard Emerging Market Debt Strategies managed by Denise Simon, Arif Joshi and team.

From 1 April 2011 to 30 December 2011 the strategy returned -13.79 with a standard deviation of 16.46, compared to -20.06 and 25.56 for the MSCI Emerging Markets Index, according to Lazard.
