He will take up his new role in October, taking on the £71m European Equity Fund that was previously a quant-based proposition. He leaves behind the £640m Royal London European Growth Fund that he has managed since 2001.

Lilley has a contrarian approach running the Royal London proposition with a concentrated portfolio of just 48 stocks making up 37% of the total; the OMAM fund currently has 116 stocks with its top ten making up 25% of its total.

At OMAM he will report to Ashton Bradbury, head of equities, who said: “We are very confident that, with a continuation of his high conviction approach and excellent track record, over time we will be able to achieve significant market share in this sector.”

From 1994 he was director of European equities at NPI, moving to TT International as a portfolio manager five years later before joining Royal London.
