The investment was part of an initial rush of £1.6bn into Woodford’s fund in the run up to its launch in June. Since then it is has grown to an even more impressive £2.2bn.

Other UK equity income holdings in the Merlin range include Barnett’s Invesco Perpetual Income, Majedie UK Income, Artemis Income, Royal London UK Equity Income and Schroder UK Alpha Income.

“We were very happy investors for many years in Neil Woodford’s funds while he worked at Invesco Perpetual and have supported him in his new venture,” said Chatfeild-Roberts.

“CF Woodford Income has been purchased for the Jupiter Merlin Growth, Jupiter Merlin Balanced and Jupiter Merlin Income portfolios.  We also have made significant investments with his ex-colleague Mark Barnett, who now heads up the UK team at Invesco Perpetual.

“We believe that both Neil and Mark are very talented long-term investors and are excited about the potential returns they could generate for our portfolios and, as a result, our investors.”
