In her new role she will work as director of KPMG’s European financial services regulatory centre of excellence covering the investment management sector.

Patterson, who was the regulatory affairs director for investment funds and retail at the IMA, worked with the association for over 15 years. She was responsible for significantly shaping the legislation and regulation affecting the investment management industry.

This included the introduction of five sets of UCITS rules and the AIFMD, driving major reform of the UK fund tax regime and the introduction of new fund structures, and initiating robust processes and practices for funds, from pricing and distribution to fund processing and financial reporting.

“Julie’s knowledge and experience are unique and her contribution to the promotion and development of asset management in the UK cannot be underestimated. We wish her all the best in her new role,” Daniel Godfrey, chief executive of the IMA, said.

The IMA is undergoing a rebranding as it merges its investment activities with the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

“Through the merger the IMA will increase its headcount as ABI staff join the investment affairs division,” a spokesperson for the IMA said.

She added that the association is in the process of deciding on a new name.
