The group has been created by combining the firm’s Global Equities and European Equities groups, which together have $120bn in assets under management and 96 investment professionals.
The move sees Smith, who joined JPMAM in 2014, move into an expanded role having headed the European Equities group since January 2016.
He previously worked at BlackRock as a managing director within the Fundamental Equities group and before that, at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, which was acquired by BlackRock in 2006.
JPMAM said the combined group will offer clients choice across international and global equity strategies.
