Leander Christofides and Brad Demong have joined the firm as co-chief investment officers of a newly-created Global Special Situations group which is part of JP Morgan’s $120bn Global Alternatives business.

The move sees Christofides and Demong return to JP Morgan after previously working at JP Morgan Chase. The pair spent 19 and 17 years respectively with the bank in a variety of investment banking roles before leaving last year.

At JP Morgan Chase, Christofides, who will be based in London, was most recently head of EMEA leverage and distressed private side trading and head of leverage TRS and structured finance.

Demong, who will be based in New York, was head of EMEA leverage and distressed private side research and co-manager of the leverage TRS and structured finance risk book.

The Global Special Situations group will focus on building out JPMAM’s private debt offering. It will predominantly target institutional clients, but Christofides and Demong have been tasked with product development across investor groups.

The group will operate globally and report to co-managing partners of JP Morgan Global Alternatives, Anton Pil and Chris Hayward.
