Towers Watson has appointed Jon Pliner as its new chief investment officer as Craig Baker moves to become chief investment strategist of its investments business.
Baker will now take a “more external, market facing” role managing the firm’s strategic relationships and developing investment opportunities after 10 years as its global CIO.
He will continue to lead the £4.8bn Alliance Witan trust, which became a FTSE 100 company last year after the merger between the Alliance and Witan investment trusts.

Pliner will take on Baker’s responsibilities as CIO, having spent the past eight years as the firm’s head of delegated portfolio management in the US.
Diya Luke, global head of investments at Towers Watson, said: “I am also delighted to welcome Jon onto our global leadership team and excited for him to start work with a range of new clients. Jon brings a breadth of experience that will greatly benefit our clients and our partners.”
