Former M&G Investments equities manager Aled Smith (pictured) has joined J O Hambro Capital Management as investment director.

Smith exited M&G in July. He had worked for the last 18 years, most recently as director of the equities division. In April, he stepped down from managing the £526m Global Leaders Fund. Prior to M&G, he was a buy-side analyst at JP Morgan Asset Management.

Based in London, he will provide investment oversight to 16 teams globally, including Boston, New York and Singapore. He will also be responsible for recruiting investment talent as the company looks to add more investment strategies to its range.

The appointment follows the departure of JOHCM chief executive Ken Lambden, announced in August.

Acting chief executive Emilio Gonzalez, who heads up Australian parent company Pendal Group, said Smith will play an important role in the growth of the business. Gonzalez described him as an innovative thinker and exeperienced, successful investor.

Smith joins on 24 September.
