JM Finn has promoted long-serving investment director Hugo Bedford as chief executive as Steven Sussman prepares to retire.

Sussman will become chairman of the £9.3bn wealth management firm as part of the changes, which come into effect from 1 January. “These changes represent a natural step in the firm’s evolution, while retaining continuity within the management team,” he said.

Existing chairman James Edgedale will step back from his role on 31 December and become a non-executive director.

Bedford has been with JM Finn since 2006, having joined from HSBC where he was an investment manager in the high net worth team.

At JM Finn, he manages over £400m of client assets and oversees a team of 16 with total assets under management and administration of over £3bn. He is part of the tailored platform solution investment committee that provides active and passive fund solutions for advised clients.

He is also a member of the management team and helped the firm transition from a stockbroker to wealth manager. He started his career at James Capel in 1992 after graduating from economics and politics at Durham University.
