James Hambro & Partners has poached an investment manager from Aberdeen Standard Capital to boost its Leeds team, as well as appointing a head of marketing and UK business development.

Ed Binks (pictured) will join former Aberdeen Standard Capital colleagues, Aidan Butler and Ed Marsden, at the wealth manager’s recently-opened Leeds office.

Butler, who is also an investment manager in the team, said Binks brings “a lot of experience and expertise” in trusts, pensions and charities.

“It’s been a year since we opened the Leeds office for JH&P – its first regional office,” Butler said. “We’re attracting clients from the North and Midlands and it’s a sign of the appeal of the JH&P offering that business is growing strongly despite the constraints of Covid, which has hampered the usual opportunities for meeting new clients.

“Having worked with Ed for many years I know he will be an outstanding addition to the team,” he added.

Before joining Aberdeen Standard Capital as private client head, Binks worked for Standard Life and Newton Investment Management.

Binks said: “JH&P has a distinctive way of doing business that is widely appreciated in the industry. Investment managers work directly with clients and all contribute to the investment process, which creates a powerful collegiate spirit. It’s an independent partnership and clients are the priority.”

JH&P names C.Hoare hire as UK business development lead

Alongside Binks, JH&P have appointed Helen Rynhoud to the newly appointed role of head of marketing and UK business development. Rynhoud joins from C.Hoare & Co and has previously worked for Coutts and Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management in Geneva.

She said: “JH&P continued to deliver a really strong client service and investment performance through 2020, and the business is seeing the benefits. With the opening of the Edinburgh office, expansion in Leeds and growth across all parts of the business, this is an exciting time to be joining.”

JH&P announced the opening of a Scottish branch last month, headed by 7IM’s former head of wealth management Alex Montgomery. The Edinburgh office is expected to open in April, and spark a spur of new recruitments to fill it.
