James Carthew, head of investment companies at QuotedData, has announced his intention to step down from the firm at the end of September, according to a post on his social media on Friday.

It was clarified that he will continue to help as a contributing editor, focusing on writing and analysis, but is looking for other roles in the sector.

“I am keen to continue my involvement in the sector that has been the backbone of my career and makes up almost all of my pension fund,” Carthew said on social media.

Edward Marten, chief executive at QuotedData, said: “We have planned for this for some time: introducing a new compliance officer and a part-time finance director, hiring Gavin [Lumsden], and building genuine depth across the research team.

“This is a carefully prepared transition rather than a sudden one.”

Carthew has been in the industry for more than four decades, having served as a director and co-founder at QuotedData for the past 14 years.

He initially started as a fund accountant on several funds at M&G in 1984. Nine years later, he was appointed manager of the M&G Fund of Investment Trusts, before leaving the firm in 2000.
