Columbia Threadneedle’s chief investment officer (CIO) EMEA and deputy global CIO Mark Burgess (pictured) has been appointed as chair of the Investment Association’s investment committee.

In a statement, the IA said Burgess would chair his first meeting on Tuesday.

Burgess said it was a privilege to chair the committee. “The asset management industry is undergoing a time of change, challenge and opportunity and as an industry we have a responsibility to ensure that we are delivering the best possible outcomes for our clients.

“I look forward to working closely with the committee to provide strategic oversight of the association’s activities which support users of capital markets.”

The investment committee is responsible for all matters that affect asset managers as investors and users of capital markets. It oversees a number of sub committees, including those focused on sustainability and responsible investing, trading, derivatives and the IA’s work on private markets.

IA director for investment and capital markets, Galina Dimitrova, added: “Mark has a wealth of industry experience and his leadership will benefit the work of the IA in ensuring that markets work fairly and effectively to meet the needs of savers and investors.”

Burgess, joined Threadneedle from Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) in November 2010 as CIO. Prior to this, he served as head of equities at LGIM and previously served 12 years at Morgan Grenfell Asset Management.
