Lockhart originally joined Tilney as a trainee in 2002 before moving to Barclays Wealth as a portfolio manager in 2010. His new role will see him managing money for individuals, families, trusts and pension funds, and establish relationships with professional firms.

In parallel with his investment career, Lockhart represented Scotland on 176 occasions, including 12 as captain, and was a member of the Scotland squad for the 1998 Commonwealth Games and 2007 World Cup.

He reports to Paul Frame, managing director, who heads up Tilney Bestinvest’s 33-strong Glasgow team.

Frame said: “We are committed to providing the highest level of investment management and wealth planning services and we continue to look to expand the team in Scotland with new hires as we look to the future with confidence."
