Starting on 1 March 2018, the duo will take over the £983m fund from current manager Philip Matthews, subject to FCA approval.

Matthews originally joined Schroders from rival Jupiter, where he was responsible for the firm’s Growth and Income fund.

To ensure a seamless transition, the pair will work alongside Matthews before taking over the fund entirely.

After handing over the UK Alpha fund, Matthews will focus solely on managing the smaller £316m Schroder UK Growth fund, which he has managed since October 2014.

Rory Bateman, the fund group’s head of UK and European equities, said: “We are delighted to have Bill and Nick join the Schroders team. They are extremely high-calibre investors with excellent experience in UK and European equities and are well placed to manage the Schroder UK Alpha Plus fund. Their style of investing completes our investment line-up and further strengthens our UK equities offering to our clients.

“Bill and Nick’s appointment provides us with the opportunity to allow Philip Matthews to focus solely on the Schroder UK Growth fund. We believe this will be a great advantage for Philip and our clients.”
