‘Huge interest’ delays FSA platforms paper until Q3 2011

The FSA’s platforms paper is to be delayed until Q3 2011.

The consultation paper, published in November 2010, caused a stir with its proposals to ban cash rebates. The IMA said the proposal would lead to increased costs for consumers but the FSA’s own Consumer Panel suggestted the measures did not go far enough and proposed that all platform rebates be banned.

The response to that paper has been such that the regulator’s latest Policy Development Update says the final paper is now expected to be published in Q3 2011.

An FSA spokeswoman said the “huge amount of interest” that the consultation had engendered meant the original target of a June publication date would now not be met.

“The platforms paper will be published as soon as possible,” the spokeswoman said.

“This complex area prompted a number of detailed responses to the consultation, and we are keen to ensure that each of those submissions is properly evaluated.”
