Herron will report to Steve Waygood, chief responsible investment officer, and will lead and support fund manager engagement with senior management across all holdings.

She joins the firm from Co-operative Asset Management, where she was headed the corporate governance function, leading engagement, analysis and policy across environmental, social and governance issues.

Steve Waygood said: “We believe that companies that are well-governed and operate in a responsible and sustainable way deliver more value to long-term shareholders. Investor confidence in the integrity and quality of company management is also essential. Such confidence requires investors to behave as good stewards of the companies that they own, engaging with boards to support and promote good corporate governance and sustainable business strategy. This is why our Head of Engagement is such an important post.
