The Sicav, managed by head of currency Bob Arends and his five-strong team, has around $60m in assets under management and will close on 31 October, with cash returned to shareholders. At the same time the team’s currency hedge fund and managed accounts will also close.

Henderson hired the Amsterdam-based team in January 2009 from Fortis Bank and all five of the team, including Dennis van den Bosch and Bernd Kraan, senior portfolio managers, and Brieuc de Hults and Jill Rootsaert, portfolio managers, will leave Henderson – “by mutual agreement” according to the official statement – at the end of the month.

A spokesman for the firm said: "We arrived at this decision in conjunction with the team after a thorough consideration."

On the same day the team leaves Henderson, the firm is to start its new advertising campaign featuring José Mourinho – "the special one" – that will be seen across the UK, continental Europe and Asia.
