Heartwood has three investment research teams focused on fixed income, equities and alternatives, with each team contributing to the asset allocation process.
The changes are an effort to align the management of the model portfolios with these three teams.
The lower risk investment strategies- Defensive and Cautious – naturally have a higher weighting to fixed income assets so will be managed by fixed income specialists David Absolon and Scott Ingham respectively.
The higher risk investment strategies- Balanced and Growth- have a large allocations to equities so will be managed by equities experts Michael Stanes and Jade Fu.
Jaisal Pastakia will handle Heartwood’s Cautious Income and Balanced Income strategies.
“These changes more clearly align the management of each strategy with the research responsibilities that members of the investment team have,” said Noland Carter, head of Heartwood Investment Management. “We task individuals and teams with taking the lead on research, and this feeds into a whole team discussion on how to position portfolios effectively across our range of strategies.”
Heartwood has also moved all of its funds into the Investment Association’s unclassified sector, from the various ‘mixed investments’ sectors.
Carter said that given the nature of Heartwood’s fund range and proposition it does not fit cleanly into the various mixed investment sectors, which creates risk of client confusion and makes unclassified the best option.
Heartwood has over £2.4bn of assets under management.
