Shiels, who was at Gartmore for more than 11 years, has become director, UK retail, at Man Group.
Responsible for the distribution of Man and GLG’s long-only and absolute return funds to third parties in the UK, Shiels will report to Man’s head of UK retail, Richard Phillips.
Cheung will join Pictet Asset Management, meanwhile, as senior investment manager in the Asia total return team. He will manage Asia equity long/short funds and report to Nidhi Mahurkar, head of Asia equity long/short at Pictet AM.
Cheung previously held roles at ABN Amro Asset Management and Central Asset Investments in Hong Kong.
