Fundsmith has promoted its head of front office operations to partner after a decade at Terry Smith’s investment firm.

Tom Armstrong (pictured) joined the business in 2010 and was promoted in April, according to a filing on Companies House published this week. In June, Armstrong was listed as a “related person” in Fundsmith’s application to launch a long/short fund to manage Smith’s personal assets.

Smith, Fundsmith founder and chief executive, said: “Tom has been with Fundsmith since ahead of the launch of our first fund in 2010 and has played an important part in building Fundsmith, establishing our Mauritian office in 2014 and launching our Mauritian Feeder Fund in 2016.”

He becomes the first additional member to the partnership since 2018, when a trio of stalwarts were promoted – Conrad Rey, head of high net worth and international business, Greville Ward and research analyst Daniel Washburn.

Like Armstrong they had been with the business since 2010, when it was founded.

Armstrong is resident in Mauritius, according to Companies House.
