Invesco’s former head of European small caps, Adrian Bignell, has resurfaced at Geneva-based boutique Quaero Capital.
Bignell (pictured) has joined the firm’s small and micro-cap team as a senior portfolio manager, based in London.
He joined Invesco in 2003 and ran the European Opportunities fund since its launch in 2008 until June last year, when he left the firm.
His departure followed a reshuffle of the UK equities team by chief investment officer Stephanie Butcher that saw Mark Barnett leave the firm. Butcher has since reshaped other areas of Invesco’s Henley investment team.

Before Invesco, Bignell worked at Cazenove Capital which he joined in 1994 before becoming a partner and vice-head of the European equities team.
A press release announcing the appointment said Bignell will bring “strong expertise in Northern European companies and his specific focus on small- and mid-caps”.
Quaero Capital chief executive Jean Keller said: “Thanks to his extensive experience in the European small and mid caps arena, Adrian will be a great addition to our equity investment team. We are delighted to have him join Quaero Capital, as he shares our commitment for high conviction portfolios based on strong fundamental analysis and original research.”
Bignell added: “With its active management approach and its team of independent-thinking and conviction-led fund managers, Quaero Capital has built a solid franchise in Europe. I am very pleased to join this stimulating environment imbued with a strong entrepreneurial culture.”
