Fidelity International has appointed Christine Baalham and Tom Record (pictured) to its global equity team, following current manager Jeremy Podger’s decision to retire from managing money at the end of March.
The duo will work together as co-portfolio managers on the £3.2bn Fidelity Global Special Situations fund and the $5.5bn (£4.3bn) Luxembourg domiciled Fidelity Funds – World Fund, two funds run by Podger.
Podger announced his retirement back in September. He is not fully leaving the industry, as he will become a senior advisor to Fidelity International when he steps back from day-to-day fund management.
Baalham joins the firm after over 20 years at Ninety One, where she managed a range of global equity funds.
Record arrives at Fidelity from Liontrust, where he was most recently head of global equities. He joined Liontrust in 2022 as part of the firm’s acquisition of Majedie Asset Management.
He had spent eight years managing funds at Majedie, following a spell as an investment manager at Baillie Gifford.
Ilga Haubelt, head of equities, Europe, Fidelity International, said: “After a distinguished investment career spanning over three decades, we are hugely grateful to Jeremy for his dedication, teamwork, and investment.
“We have progressively invested in our global equity team to ensure a vibrant mix of talent, experience, style and specialism, and we are, therefore, delighted to confirm that this backdrop has enabled us to attract two very experienced portfolio managers to join the team and work together on our flagship global funds.”
