Fidelity has appointed Shamil Pankhania as a fixed income portfolio manager, with the team set to undergo several ahead of the retirement of portfolio manager Sajiv Vaid at the end of 2023.

Pankhania joins from HSBC, where he was co-head of global fixed income solutions and head of UK credit solutions. Before joining the bank in 2019, he spent eight years within Blackrock’s global fixed income team following a spell at Pimco.

Kris Atkinson (pictured), who has worked alongside Vaid as a co-manager for the last five years, will step up to be lead portfolio manager at the end of September.

Pankhania will work alongside Atkinson and Ian Fishwick as co-manager on a range of Fidelity’s fixed income offerings.

Steve Ellis, Fidelity fixed income global CIO, said: “Fidelity’s circa 100-strong fixed income team and co-manager structure means the team draw upon a wealth of skill and expertise, working seamlessly together to drive the best outcome for our clients.

“In recent years, we have progressively added depth to the teams working most closely with Sajiv so that we can effect a smooth transition. The appointment of Kris as lead-manager, coupled with the extensive investment experience Shamil brings to the team, will allow for a unified transition of portfolio management duties, while adding further bench strength to the wider team.

“We would like to thank Sajiv for his dedication and hard work after more than 30 years’ in the investment industry, and wish him all the best as he steps into retirement.”
