Federated Hermes has hired Andy Turnbull as a senior investment manager for the firm’s UK Nature Impact investment strategy, which will launch later this year.

Federated Hermes said the blended finance strategy will seek to generate “attractive” returns by investing in “nature-positive” businesses across land, coasts, rivers, and sea in the UK.

The strategy has been co-designed by Federated Hermes and environmental impact investment advisor Finance Earth.

As part of portfolio construction, Turnbull (pictured) will be tasked with evaluating, underwriting, and managing nature-based impact investment opportunities.

He will also manage strategic relationships with individuals and organisations as part of the execution of the strategy.

Based in London, Turnbull will report to director Robert Hall, who said: We are delighted to have Andy on board. His breadth of experience will play a key role in what is an exciting investment opportunity, generating returns for investors through the sale of ecosystem services such as carbon credits and biodiversity units.

“In doing so, we will support the goals of the UK Nature Impact Strategy as we aim to restore nature and biodiversity, mitigate climate change and create green, skilled employment.”

Turnbull was previously head of asset management at Climate Impact Partners, a role he held for less than a year before joining Federated Hermes.

Prior to that, he was head of natural capital and sustainable investment at Bidwells, and he has also worked at Freeworld Trading.
