Ex-Tilney man joins Old Mutual Wealth

Old Mutual Wealth (OMW) has appointed former Tilney man John Porteous in the newly-created role of retail customer solutions director.

Porteous will be responsible for establishing the wealth manager’s retail customer solutions team, which OMW said will play a central role in its “strategy of blending businesses to create customer-focused wealth management solutions”.

He previously worked as client proposition head at Tilney, but left the firm in March, a year after it acquired his former employer Towry for £600m.

OMW chief executive Paul Feeney, said: “John joins us to focus on enhancing the experience and outcomes for those customers who choose to access multiple parts of our proposition, and his appointment adds significant expertise and experience to our business at a crucial stage in our evolution.”

Porteous added: “I’m delighted to be joining Old Mutual Wealth at such an exciting time for the business, as it prepares for its proposed listing in 2018. It is extremely exciting for me to have the opportunity to be part of that journey and help shape the customer experience though our end-to-end wealth management solutions.”

This comes in the same week OMW announced the hire of John-Paul Crutchley to act as head of investor relations.

It also announced it was spinning out a dedicated £16bn multi-asset investment business as parent company Old Mutual prepares to list its UK wealth management business on the London and Johannesburg Stock Exchanges as part of its “managed separation process”.
