The former head of closed-ended funds at Premier Asset Management, Nigel Sidebottom, has died following a nine-month battle with acute myeloid leukaemia.

Sidebottom joined Premier in 1999 and, in addition to running the firm’s investment trusts, was deputy chief investment officer at the time he stepped down in December 2018.

He went on to run his own consultancy business, working with wealth and fund managers, and was appointed a non-executive director of Acorn Income Fund. He left both roles around the time he was diagnosed with cancer.

On his LinkedIn profile, Sidebottom had posted: “Since being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in September 2021, I have […] been campaigning to encourage people under the age of 55 to register as potential stem cell donors through the charities Anthony Nolan or DKMS.

“Stem cell transplants can be the only route to a life saving cure for many leukaemia patients.”

He passed away on 10 May.

Premier Miton Investors’ chief executive Mike O’Shea said: “It is with great sadness that we heard the news that Nigel Sidebottom has passed away. He was part of our team for many years, as both a fund manager and head of closed ended funds at Premier Asset Management, leaving the group only recently at the end of 2018.

“Nigel was a true expert and source of great knowledge on investment trusts. In addition to his long and accomplished career in private client stockbroking and in investment management, he also served as a non-executive director of various investment trusts.

“We know he will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
