Matthew Evans has been appointed as UK small cap fund manager at Threadneedle marking the expansion of the firm’s UK equities teams.

Evans will join the asset manager in October, and will work alongside James Thorne, fellow UK small cap manager, and will report to head of UK equities Simon Brazier.

He is currently senior fund manager at Legal & General Investment Management, where he specialises in UK smaller companies. He has been with the firm since 1998.

The Threadneedle UK small and mid-cap team manage £1.44bn, while the firm has around £16.7bn invested in UK equities.

The Threadneedle UK Smaller Companies Fund currently has around £122.1m under management, which it invests mainly in shares in companies lisyed on the Hoare Govett Smaller Companies Index and the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market.

The funds top holdings currently include Ted Baker, Paypoint and Oxford Instruments. Its performance over the past year is shown in the graph below.
