Deborah Fuhr, global head of ETF research and implementation strategy at BlackRock – who has been described as “arguably the biggest name globally in ETF research” – is to leave the organisation though it is has not been confirmed whether the decision was Fuhr’s or BlackRock’s.
Her departure comes as its entire ETF research capability is to be taken on by the BlackRock Investment Institute launched in April.
Lee Kempler joined in April from McKinsey to lead the Institute while Russ Koesterich is global chief investment strategist at iShares, the ETF business that BlackRock took on when it bought Barclays Global Investors in 2008.
Fuhr joined BlackRock with this acquisition of BGI prior to which she spent 11 years with Morgan Stanley as head of its Investment Strategies group.
Koesterich is, and will continue to be, based in the US.
Fuhr is understood to be carrying on work with BlackRock though it is not known when she will be leaving.
