Investment manager Dowgate Wealth has acquired Asia-focused investment boutique BambuBlack from BennBridge, with founder Jane Andrews (pictured) and portfolio manager Linda Wang Saitowitz to join the firm on 1 November.

The deal, which is subject to FCA approval, will see BambuBlack’s Asia ex-Japan Fund and Asia Income & Growth Fund move across to Dowgate.

BambuBlack focuses its investments on small to mid-sized companies in Asia. While the company was created in 2019, founder Jane Andrews has worked in Asia Pacific markets for over 30 years, 21 of which were with Smith & Williamson. Portfolio manager Linda Wang Saitowitz spent two years with Deutsche Bank in Beijing before spending nine years as a senior equity research analyst at HSBC.

Dowgate, which was founded in 2020, is a boutique wealth manager which also runs two of its own funds – SVS Dowgate Wealth UK Small Cap Growth and SVS Dowgate Wealth European Growth. It is also the investment manager of the Onward Opportunities investment trust, which invests in UK small caps.

Laurence Hulse, head of funds at Dowgate, called the incorporation of BambuBlack a “strategic decision” for the firm as it aims to expand its management services.

“Jane and Linda’s appetite for smaller companies neatly adds to the Dowgate approach, while the addition of the two Asia-focused funds allows us to broaden our investment offering to existing Dowgate clients,” he said.

Andrews added: “We are excited to form a new partnership with Dowgate and look forward to taking the business to a new level, with the support of its experienced team.”
