According to the group, the new title better reflects his growing role within the investment committee.

Dowey will report directly to CEO Robin Geffen and will continue to lead the company’s macroeconomic research, but will now also work alongside Geffen to manage the investment process “to meet the demands of the investment environment”.

Dowey, joined the firm as an economist in 2007, before becoming chief economist in 2009 and investment director in 2010, the group said, and has played a “vital role in shaping the firm’s economic view”.

According to Alasdair Johnson, the move reflects the ongoing refinement of the investment process at the group that was announced in February this year.

Neptune did add, however, that Geffen will continue to take overall responsibility for the investment team and manage all of the funds he currently runs for the long term.

Geffen said: “When you start a business there is a period of time where you have to wear many different hats. One of the most rewarding aspects of growing Neptune has been seeing our own talent grow into roles such as this, enabling me to retain my total focus on the funds I manage.

He added: “Over the past year we have made a number of moves to enhance our long-standing investment process, whilst staying true to our investment principles. James’s contribution to that process has been pivotal.”
