Coram Asset Management plans to shift away from actively managed strategies in favour of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) believing them to offer the most “bang for their buck”.

Instead, Coram has honed in on the ‘best of breed’ in active fund management, the likes of Neil Woodford who consistently outperforms and who Sullivan has supported since the launch of the flagship Equity Income Fund.

“We manage our asset allocation aggressively.  Marrying up active asset allocation with high beta strategies that we feel give us most ‘bang for our buck’ as we strive for the optimum level of efficiency in articulating our thematic asset allocation,” Sullivan added.

“Our investment style is driven by asset allocation.  Getting that right is the most important ingredient of delivering performance.  Populating that asset allocation with the precise investments is of secondary importance, albeit it remains very material and we must not understate that.”
