Europe is “cheap for a reason” according to Rathbones’ David Coombs, who said the recent turnaround in markets on the continent could be a false dawn for investors.

If Trump did bring in more protectionism that would make Coombs “more nervous” but for now he is feeling mildly positive on the current situation.

He is even relatively optimistic on the impact of Brexit on the UK economy in his overarching a five-year view, believing the final deal must be “mutually beneficial” to both the UK and the EU, however he accepted markets will be volatile as people react to day to day developments.
